LOCAL DECISIONS
San Diego care is a regional network decision
San Diego County is divided into South County, Central San Diego, East County and North County care patterns. A useful review maps your doctors, medical groups, hospitals and prescriptions across the regions you actually use, then checks each one against the specific plan for the year you will use it.
South County · Chula Vista and National City
South Bay care may involve Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista or Paradise Valley Hospital in National City, along with independent doctors and medical groups.
The hospital name alone is not enough. Confirm the exact facility, medical group and physicians with the specific Medicare Advantage plan, and check whether referrals are required.

Central San Diego care may include Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego in Hillcrest, UC San Diego Health Hillcrest, Sharp Memorial and their affiliated or independent physician groups.
If a specialist or hospital is important to you, verify the exact doctor, group, facility and referral rules. A system's participation does not automatically put every clinician or plan in-network.

East County residents may use Sharp Grossmont Hospital or UC San Diego Health East Campus Medical Center (the former Alvarado location), plus doctors in medical groups around La Mesa, El Cajon and Santee.
Check whether the plan includes the particular medical group and whether a doctor is still accepting that plan. Provider contracts and Medicare Advantage participation can change.

North County care can involve Pomerado Hospital in Poway, Palomar Medical Center in Escondido or Sharp Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, depending on where you live and which specialists you use.
Tri-City Medical Center began operating as Sharp Tri-City Medical Center in July 2026, but the exact plan, physician and medical-group contracts still need to be confirmed for your coverage year.
